Naypyidaw - November 02, 2023 - China and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation in combating telecommunications fraud, online gambling, terrorism, and drug control measures. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Wang Xiaohong, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security, and Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council of Myanmar, in Naypyidaw.

Highlighting the close geographical proximity and deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, Wang emphasized the importance of their "Paukphaw" (fraternal) relationship. He stated that China is keen to work collaboratively with Myanmar to uphold this traditional friendship, expedite key Belt and Road projects, and deepen cooperation in law enforcement and security.

Both countries' law enforcement and security departments will enhance collaboration in combating telecommunications fraud and online gambling, counter-terrorism efforts, drug control initiatives, law enforcement activities in the Mekong River region, and the security of major projects. These joint efforts aim to safeguard the security and development interests of both nations.



Min Aung Hlaing expressed Myanmar's willingness to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China across various fields, ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens and projects in Myanmar. He emphasized the shared vision of building a community of shared future between Myanmar and China.

During the visit, Wang and Myanmar's Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae co-chaired the seventh China-Myanmar ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation. The meeting culminated in the signing of the meeting minutes, solidifying the commitment of both nations to collaborative efforts in the realm of security.

In a significant development, on October 14, 2,349 Chinese suspects of telecom scams were extradited to Chinese authorities. This joint operation between the public security department of Pu'er in Southwest China's Yunnan and law enforcement authorities in Myanmar marked the largest single transfer of suspects since the initiation of the crackdown on telecom fraud in northern Myanmar.
